Summary: |
The world consists of two dimensions joined as one, like a mirror. The first is the world in which the humans live, Assiah. The other is the world of demons, Gehenna. Ordinarily, travel between the two, and indeed any kind of contact between the two, is impossible. However the demons can pass over into this world by possessing anything that exists within it. Satan is the god of demons, but there's one thing that he doesn't have and that's a container in the human world that is powerful enough to hold him! For that purpose, he created Okumura Rin, his son from a human woman, but will his son agree to his plans, or will he become something else...? After killing Rin's guardian Father Fujimoto in an attempt to bring Rin back to the Demon world, it led to Rin's journey on becoming an Exorcist in order to defeat Satan. |

An ungodly mess of religious references might not be the first thought that appears when you think of a successful fantasy anime, although this anime actually makes it work. Add to that a standard shounen fantasy anime formula and you basically have Ao no Exorcist. Some aspects I would have liked seen elaborated upon, but seeing as the show wanted to wrap the story up in only one season, it´decent enough. Seeing as it´s only one season also makes the show take a drastically different turn from the manga(which is still ongoing for those who wonders). Even so there are a few plot points I saw in the anime that has also been done in the manga recently(although a bit more subtle and from a slightly different approach) but overall it stands on it´s own two feet. One of my favorite aspects of the show(this also applies to the manga) is the relationship between the twin brothers who are the main characters, and the very typical inner struggle Rin has with his both metaphorical and literal demonic side and how this affects his friends. Over and out.
