Summary:
Manji is a crass, violent samurai with a special ability: he cannot die. Cursed with immortality by the nun Yobikuni as punishment for his ruthless deeds, he has grown weary of his ageless life. The only way to lift the curse is to slay 1,000 evil men. So Manji wanders Japan, shedding the blood of the wicked on his quest to finally die.
When I first watched this I thought I was going to get action and that's about it. But, I was surprised that this road to redemption was a little more complex than I thought. It is one that would be a great way to kill an afternoon with, but not sure if it has the power to have an additional viewing. The animation is very realistic and very well done. When someone gets cut in half, you see everything the in the two half's come tumbling out. The fights are somewhat realistic. Granted this is anime, but given the realistic style of the animation they tried to make the fights are realistic as possible. Which is always a nice break from the DBZ "going everywhichway" style of fighting.
