Digimon Adventure, perhaps more commonly known simply as the first season in the Digimon series, is something most of us probably watched faithfully when it aired on tv a few years ago. And like the classic Pokemon, this 'mon' series also had us going crazy with all the new colourful monsters that appeared each episode.
After watching this anime a few years ago on tv, today I decided to start rewatching it. Sure enough, the slightly childish presentation of the story had me grinning a couple of times, but did it bother me? Nope. It was a pure nostalgia trip, and I loved every second of it.
If you're looking for something with a complex plot that'll leave you on the edge of your seat after every episode, then this isn't for you. The anime starts with classical 'Digimon of the week' if you'd call it that, with every episode a new Digimon appearing who provides some sort of challenge for the main characters, who overcome them with bravery and friendship. Like I said, the plot will not leave you very puzzled after each episode, but titbits of moral lessons are squeezed in and those can give you some food for thought. And especially when the anime nears the end, the story does get a bit darker and more serious, which will still provide you with entertaining suspense.
Being an anime mainly aimed at a more younger audience, the dialogue includes a lot of "Let's go!", "Go for it!" and other enthusiastic yelling, but it's more likely to amuse you then be considered annoying.
And being an anime that's from a good 10 years ago, the animation might not be what you're used to after watching any of the latest animes, but with you're most likely not watching this one this for its animation. It's certainly not bad, not top-notch either and in the end will do a good enough job to portray the feelings of this anime.
All in all the entertainment level of this one is excellent for me. Starting off with a bit of a childish feeling, the series develops as its characters do. The new Digimon will keep surprising you and once you've started watching, you'll catch yourself eagerly wanting more eventually. So for the final conclusion, it's a series that will make it worth your while once you've progressed far enough. And for those out there like me, there's nothing better than experiencing some good old childhood memories!
