its impossible to describe what an amazing and intricate plot Durarara!! has without giving away what it is that makes it so good.
on the surface, it looks like a slice of life about a normal boy who moves from a small town to go to school in one of the wards of tokyo, ikebukero at the urging of one of his childhood friends to try and have a more interesting life.
on his first day there he's inroduced by his friend to all the people he should and shouldn't stay away from and somehow ends up meeting living urban legends and some of the most dangerous people in the town.
an imformation broker with a love for human that not quite what you'd think, a man dressed as a bartender who can lift vending machines without breaking a sweat, a black russian running a sushi bar, and the mysterious black "headless" rider.
while thats an amazing set up, it all seems "normal" in the set up of the story, and what is amazing about it is that, as it moves along, it makers every character a main character, and the secrets and driving forces of each push them all together in 2 different climatic endings: as it is in 2 different series.

the story divides neatly in two, but the end of the first 12 eps is so fullfilling that it kinda feels weird picking up and going on with the next 12 afterwards, btu don't give up, the second half is even more amazing than the first.
it has first class art work, that moves especially well in fight scenes, and teh ending and begining songs for both the first and second half are as catchy as anything.
this series is not at all overratted and exactly the right length, and will have you wanting to watch more and more as teh cliffhangers start coming thick.
