Summary:
FLCL revolves around Naota. His life is interrupted by the arrival of Haruko Haruhara, who bursts on the scene by running Naota over with her Vespa scooter, then giving him CPR and hitting him on the head with a blue vintage Rickenbacker 4001 left-handed reverse strung electric bass guitar.Later, Naota is shocked to find Haruko working in his house as a live-in maid.
Where to start with a series like FLCL. (at the beginning is usually a good idea) It starts of simply, a young boy with a crush and an older girl who is aware of it, both at a low point in their currently brief lives so far. Pretty much a standard fair for stories these days, but FLCL introduces one of the craziest characters I've witnessed in an animation shortly afterwards. Add into the mix a series of totally mind boggling events that involve robots bursting from peoples bodies followed by immensely entertaining if brief battles, a collection of rare guitars being used as mallets and even the re-hydration of a dried out hulk of a corpse; the word bizarre cannot begin to contain the essence of the show.
The only way to judge the series, is to watch it yourself. If you like to be kept in the loop, then the show my not be for you, as some things aren't explained, either at all, or only in the last two episodes. I thoroughly urge anyone reading this to watch the show, even if it is just the first episode, you'll understand what I mean by bizarre.
