Summary: |
The year is 1924, the place, Sauville, a small European country neatly tucked beside the Alps... Kazuya Kujo has been studying abroad at the prestigious Saint Marguerite Academy, where urban legends and horror stories are all the rage. Most Kazuya ignores but the story of the Queen Berry, a mysterious ghost ship, really gets to him. Of course, his brainy friend Victorique is much more intrigued by true stories, and she uses her unrivaled logic to solve mysteries even the town's famous detective can't. Ironically, it is Victorique's inquisitive nature that leads the duo to board a ship that matches the Queen Berry's description to a tee, a ship that might just hold the key to solving a sinister mystery... |

Gosick is an excellent anime. Murder, Mystery, Light Thrills and hints of The Supernatural, Romance and Comedy is how I personally see this anime, the setting is really appropriate for what I think the creator was trying to achieve, the dress fashion and technology seems relevant to the 1920-30's but I am not all to good at history. the small town also allows things to happen without many if any witness's which could also help the 'ghost' thing seem more real
I think Gosick is one of the more 'original' animes to come out recently, like the whole detective thing has been done a million times, but this is the only new anime i have found which isn't a harem with excessive 'fan service' or 'action whoring' which is another factor which really pulls me into this anime, I also like the fey/gothic/cult lore feeling of Gosick, as previously stated by Auroraisa.
The colours used in Gosick are darkish there isn't what I consider to be bright and flashy colours unless they try to make contrast on the current situation, also the style in which this anime is presented also allows you to make assumptions on who you think is the culprit is, which makes for great entertainment. The animation isn't really anything special but i like the way there isn't an over-prominent black like dividing every detail.
Gosick is definitely worth the watch, I'd say there isn't an age target in this anime as nothing overbearing happens, but there is always something to figure out, making it entertaining for all ages. 10/10 for being different and creative.
