Ohana Matsumae is sent to live with her grandmother, who she has never met nor spoken to, at her Taisho-era (1920s) hot springs inn. It's not a lifestyle that Ohana would have chosen, but she decidesnot to be discouraged and to make the most of her new circumstances.

I agree with the user who said this anime isn't getting enough credit. It really should because it's an awesome coming of age story. Ohana is sent to live with her strict and aloof grandmother and made to work at an inn. Along the way she makes alot of friends and learns about life, love and family. Its such a great story with great development and good dialogue. There's also nice moments of comedy and emotion in between. The characters are also likeable and the story is easy to relate to. It's definitely a favourite.
