First of all, i must say that i love this show, and neither rain nor shine will keep me from getting my hit of One Piece in the mornings. I'm not going to say "This anime is better then every other anime!!" or anything like that, since that is just a matter of personal opinion, but what i will say, is that if you can get past the early episodes, look through the old animation and truly grasp hold of the story, then you will watch this show to the end, regardless of its nearing 500 episodes. You must realize that this show was made in 1999, so the animation isn't going to up to most of your standards, but it does get better as you go.
This story is truly one you wouldn't expect to see, pirates whose morals, ideals and dreams soar high above that of what you'd expect of a pirate. Every character has a back story and a dream that they're all working towards. Every episode that i watch stirs feeling inside of me, whether its excitement, confusion, humor or sadness, this show has the ability to do that, and it does it extremely well.
The character designs are another thing you will have to overlook when watching this anime, even though there are some pretty cool characters, majority of the characters aren't big lookers, but you'll be able to over look this if you genuinely love the show.
Even though there is so many episodes, the story is quite fast paced. There is always action, or some form of target, or encounter, waiting over the horizon. Though the recent episodes (Marine Fjord) have gone very slow, and filled with a great deal of useless animation, i still found them to be a good watch, kind of a bore though, compared to passed episodes.
Overall I'd say that One Piece definitely deserves its popularity, if you take the time to get into it i'm sure you'd all be pleasantly surprised, i would, and do, refer everyone to watch this show, its a very good watch.
P.S, where the hell is episode 390? uploads have been very lazy recently for this show.
