This is one movie that takes CG and hand drawn animation to a whole new level of exception. Transitioning from CG to animation is one hard thing to do, but when you have CG on TOP of HAND DRAWN scenes...I really cannot think of a better way to explain it better than pure genius. Opening was a hook, the climb up plot hill was the line, and the sinker was when everything came crashing down around the main characters. I bought the special edition when i could, and enjoy it every time i watch it.

This is a beautifully animated movie. The characters are engaging, and the plot is interesting. I loved seeing all the machinery and how the people interacted with it. A pretty standard post-apocalyptic, cyberpunk movie; you definitely know it's a Shirow Masamune work. The only flaw, I think, may be towards the end. The plot gets a little weak, but it comes back for a nice finish.
Makes me want to watch the second one!
