So, now I have finally gotten around to seeing this sequel to the first series, and I gotta say:huge improvement over the first. It expanded and followed up on what came in the first series while also introducing new concepts(which carry connections to the previous series as well) and characters which make for great drama and action. The characters are well developed and all compliment each other in some way. The pacing of the show is astoundingly good, knowing just when to slow down or speed things up, or reveal a plot twist(and let me tell you, there are quite a few, that will really suprise you). Another thing I liked, is that they let the plot have consequenses. In action shows like this its often easy to gloss over the emotional repercussions, but here they let them matter. In fact there was an entire episode dealing with the aftermath of an attack on their home base, resulting in several casualties from the school. There were funerals and everything( this episode also featured a somewhat morbid scene where the students are temporarily buried alive, as part of some insane training exercise). Speaking of the battles, they are a lot more creative and different this time around, which is very welcome. Going back to the characters I was kind of suprised how the show made me bond with characters I initially didnt think would matter in the long run. Sure, there are a few minor characters that dont get as much screentime as the others, but there´s also a suprisingly large cast of main characters who each get their own sub plots and make their personal journeys throughout the series. I can´t give it an excellent grade cause the dialogue felt a bit weird and unnessecary in a few places(though overall, it was pretty good), and there was this one character I wish they would have explained a bit more about, but still a worthy sequel to the first series. Also, one last thing. It is possible to watch this series without having watched the first show, considering the ridiculously large time gap, but you will get much more satisfaction out of it if you have watched the first show too, since you´ll fondly remember the things they refer to from the first series.
End of rant/review.
