The Japanese government was rescued from the brink of financial collapse by the Sovereign Wealth Fund. For its citizens, however, life has not improved, and unemployment, crime, suicide, and despair are rampant. Kimimaro, raised by his maternal grandmother after the disappearance of his father and the death of his mother, is a scholarship student whose only dream is to avoid all this and live a stable life. One day, however, he meets a man who offers him a large sum of money if he'll agree to pay it back. From then on his fate is radically altered as he's drawn into a mysterious area known as "The Financial District." |

I almost didn't make it to episode 2 but I'm glad I stuck with it...
This was on my list of recent anime series to watch, but after the 1st episode I was so confused I wasn't sure I wanted to continue on with it! I decided that 1 episode wasn't enough to pass judgment on an entire series so I went ahead with episode 2 and I'm sure glad I did.
This was a very fast-paced anime series and it has to be for the small amount of episodes. The techno-jargon, especially during battles, can be confusing but it helped to know something about economics. I will admit the battles didn't always make sense but they were action packed and hold your attention as well as providing tension at just the right moments.
Technically the animation is smooth and very well drawn. Action sequences are tight and fluid. The soundtrack provides great ambient support for the visuals on-screen. OP and ED were good but not necessarily keepers in my opinion.
What I mostly liked about this series was its uniqueness. Although it had kind of a 'matrix' feel to it, the concept of using money and finance as a means of battle and altering the future is something I've never come across before. The storyline was just fleshed out enough to provide you with insight into 'why' things are happening and the characters are acting as they do. Yes, some details are necessarily left out but that's not a detraction.
What I didn't like, as usual, was how the series wrapped some things up. I did enjoy the ending, don't get me wrong.
*semi-spoiler alert*
But if Mashyu represents Kimimora's future, then I would've liked to have seen her somehow present in the ending. Being a sucker for romance, it would've been cool if he'd seen her in the real world so we as the viewers would get the feeling of closure to the romance the series hinted at between them.
*end semi-spoiler alert*
In any case, this was a highly interesting series and I'm glad they left open the possibility for a future installment as I for one would greatly enjoy seeing more of this anime.
