This anime's it's rather similar to Code Geass, except not as good, mainly for the writing and the main character.

The best part was the voice acting, It's an anime you'll actually want to watch the dubbed version of. Alessandro Juliani gives a particularly good performance as L.

Other than that, it's somewhat interesting how the main character is more of an antagonist, while the ones working against him are more like the good guys. It would be better if Light was just a bit like-able though, you tend to hate his guts after a while.

As for animation, I guess that soft, dreary style suits the plot, but it's kind of boring compared to the more typical, vibrant anime style.

- seems to change pace rather often (some eps are entirely dialogue to further the plot, thus seem slow; then again it goes so fast it threatens to leave you behind)

conclusion: so i won't say it's my fav -- a little bit too typical for the genre to say that -- but it's far above decent, and worth a try if you're in for the mystery/thriller/dark-feel aspect with an actual connection to reality. good character design (charas themselves are a bit messed up! but that's just the concept ;)), great animation, the necessary suspense to overall keep people on edge, and the craved-for overall dark atmosphere to it. doesn't divert too much from the manga either, which is always a plus.

the plot is well written. the battle of mind and strategy is awesome too. i never thought of watching this anime, but turn out it is quite good. the progression of light to cold blooded murder is intriguing. i really wish that someone will beat sense into him back or just give a punch to his face since he is really annoying. his justice is kinda screwed up too. as for the episodes, there's some that contain entirely of conversation. some people may think it is a bit slow, but for me, i don't find it to be boring, it just necessary for the plot. recommended to everyone. A Death Note is a notebook with rules on the first pages and blank pages at the back. The rules tell you how to work the Death Note and what you can and can not do. The blank pages are where the magic happens, you simply write a name into the Note while picturing the person in your minds eye, and that person will die of a heart attack, unless conditions are added to the name, wherein the conditions will be applied to the death of the person whose name was written. For more than that watch the show.

Story: Excellently done, the plot and the theme work to give an, ....edge of your seat, gotta know whats gonna happen experience that, you don't want to walk away from.

Dialogue: Typical of the genre, from the perspective of the cops, better between the younger people, and all together good enough to get by nicely.

Animation: An anime can not have bad animation! It is in the purview of the artists as to how the show is to be drawn, and should not be judged, as it is the animators creative design to his art that is being judged. This should not be a discussed topic as each anime has its own style, and therefore they cannot be compared.

Entertainment: I loved this show, right from the beginning it caught me and held me enthralled. The only possible flaw is a story slow down in the middle of the series, but it did not effect my viewing even as I noticed it happening.
