Summary:
Yagami Light is an ace student with great prospects, who's bored out of his mind. One day he finds the "Death Note": a notebook from the realm of the Death Gods, with the power to kill people in any way he desires. With the Death Note in hand, Light decides to create his perfect world, without crime or criminals. However, when criminals start dropping dead one by one, the authorites send the legendary detective L to track down the killer, and a battle of wits, deception and logic ensues...
This is one of the few shows that rivals Code Geass in shear brilliance. However in contrast this is a very dark issue.
Its story is epic. It deals with a person being given a book that kills anyone whose name is written it in. using it the main character embarks on a path to reform the world while the best detective in the world aims to stop him. This premis creates In my oppinion not only one of the best mysteries but more so one of the greatest interactive stories of a duel of wits between two characters... INdeed this is the true Sherlock homes vs Moriarty match of our generation.
Dialogue is FAntastic. I found this is one of the first I enjoyed tremendously in Japanese or English. I do think the English has the best L and Ryuuk but still both are wonderful. Every actor gives it their all but also keeps the realism with the intensity that is awesome.
Animation is solid. I found that they opted out of regular shot somtimes to over dramatize the phycological aspect.. I repsected the viewpoint but sometimes it just was a bit slopy... though I found the music touch more than made up for it. Few stories have such omonious tunes that still could make you sympathize with all sides.
Enertainmain was good. I found the story and the back and forth battle brilliant. Half way through the seieries their is a hugh shock which temperarily derailes the story and sets it on a new path.. One that I kinda predicted the ending but wished it was different. I found that minor pain is what sets this series tune.. indeed the ending emplifes the main character... I found the fairness in which they present both the main characters and their respected sides is profound. One may complain about the end but in the end its still handled brilliantly and perhapes poeticly..
