Authors note:
I'll probably get Lynched by all the Death Note fans for my views but anyway lol.
Right so, I finally gave into the hype and decided to take a look at this anime. To be perfectly honest, I was kinda disappointed. I'm a big reader, Mostly Jeffery Deaver and Stephen King books. So this story wasn't overly original in my eyes. It's nothing more than a mystery/crime novel with some supernatural touches. In fact, the story outlay kind of reminded me of allot of Deaver books(The blue nowhere is one) but watered down in it's complexity. I skipped 30 episodes(from 7 to 30) and I caught onto everything that happened in those 30 episodes within 5 minutes of the final episode.
But I'll be unbiased as I always am. ;]
Review:
Death note is popular for a reason. It doesn't have allot of flashy fight scenes nor does it spend 7 episodes giving background information on someone that's only involved in the story for 5 seconds(Example: ALL of the Espada in Bleach? ...). Rather, it focuses on the psychological battle between 2 geniuses and a supernatural book called a "Death note". The actual battle of wits between Light "Kira" Yagami and Detective L is rather addictive to see who makes the next move and how the other will respond. The dialog is very intertwined and if you listen/read carefully you'll notice Light and L trying to bait each other. Animation quality is also very good, Very good character design and atmosphere in the places key events happen.
So in conclusion, if you like animes where people get the crap beaten out of them, this isn't for you. However if you want something different and do enjoy a good think(You'll probably need to think to get what's going on. ;]), then I'd recommend this.
