Summary: |
Shirou Emiya lost his parents in a fire when he was young and was later adopted by a sorceror by the name of Kiritsugu Emiya. Although he was full of admiration for his adopted father and yearns to become an ally of justice, Shirou has limited powers and was unable to become a strong sorceror like his father. That is until one fateful day, he was drawn into the Holy Grail War and had to summon a female "Servant" known as Saber in order to protect himself. It turns out that the Holy Grail War involves a series of battles among powerful sorcerors to fight for the possession of a relic that will grant one's wishes, the Holy Grail. There are altogether seven "Masters" who can summon their respective "Servants" from different classes known as Saber, Archer, Rider, Berserker, Lancer, Caster and Assasin. These "Servants" have to hide their names in order not to reveal their weaknesses to the enemies. The story revolves around Shirou and his entanglement in the Holy Grail War. |

Two words Capcom and Type moon (enough said)
An underrated signature masterpiece you don't see everyday
enough said but I'll say more =)
It is fairly old but in my opinion, this was arguably THE best and most underrated anime out there at the time
and it still manages to significantly outclass many of those painstakingly long anime like bleach, one piece, gintama etc...etc.... (i didnt say naruto but i was tempted to LoL. If this ever hit the ps4 I'd buy it immediately )

....This got me into the whole anime scene actually. It's the first real anime i've ever seen. I watched this anime twice (once in english & once in japanese). I bought the ps2 release (unlimited codes) after watching
FSN followed by the F-ZERO arcs ....NB ...Please Ignore the Fate Kaleid anime arc...it is an UNRELATED parody so i don't recommend it. It may ruin the series' reputation if anything LoL. I haven't watched Kaleid and never will haha.
I am just writing this review to credit Type moon for introducing me to the anime scene and setting an insane standard of what anime should be like in the future.
Believe it or not the Fate Stay night intro; is itself, a sequel, which was released first without confirmation of a Fate Zero Arc. That being said, you may proceed to watch the prequel arc ( Fate zero) spanning 25 episodes AFTER you're done with the Fate Stay Night Arc.
So basically the watching order is [Fate Stay Night] >>> [Fate Zero] >>> Other Related(optional)
It may be old but still very much in the game
NOT for kids or anyone looking for the comedy/ecchi genre haha.
(I definitely wouldn't recommend this to young children though :p )
Other related :: shingetsutan tsukihime / kara no kyoukai (those are the next best thing after you watch this) ( show less)

liked how they set the story up but a pity they had to kill Emiya Kiritsugu off like that. The servant fight were still cool though though Zero is unmatched

I'm reviewing this anime (Fate/Stay Night) without having watched Fate/Zero; I've only watched a few episodes of that anime.
To summarize, the anime had everything well-done. The plot/idea was very good, the story and characters were also well done, but I believe they should have spread the anime into more episodes and made it more detailed. For most of the episodes, there will be a lot of action and dramatic situations going on, but there will be very little development on character relationships. That's the main flaw of this anime (in my own opinion). Instead of adding a fight scene to every episode, they could have devoted a few to show a bit more of the characters - but that depends on the writer of course. The main characters start developing a closer connection only later on in the anime, and it goes quite fast as well. This is the main reason I believe they should have spread it out to a be a bit more detailed. Aside from having that "disconnected" feeling from the characters because it offers you little information on them in the beginning, the anime is great.
Effects - 9/10
The anime isn't too old, so the effects are pretty decent and I doubt would bother any person. Though I gave it 9 out of 10 because of the fight scenes, it's fast and realistic. Cuts were made to feel normal, as to add to the scene. If you like action, you will probably enjoy this anime.
Story/Plot - 7.5/10
You can probably see what the plot is about, a war of the Holy Grail. It sounds odd at first, but the idea is actually pretty nice. I haven't had a problem with this plot, its a good idea, but as the show itself lacked detail, it raised a lot of questions.
I enjoyed the story, the events weren't very predictable, though I do wish they would have sacrificed some of the action for a bit more character development. The later episodes will make up for the character development. One thing I like to see is realistic character behaviour, and this anime has proven to have it. The ending was not bad as well, but it really makes you desire a sequel - though all I know of so far is the prequel which is Fate/Zero.
Any thing more to rate? Eh, I'm not sure. I would give this anime a 7.5/10 overall rating; the effects and action scenes were very well done, but the story itself really needed more work. I would recommend individuals looking for a action-packed anime with a pretty neat plot to it; Fate/Zero should add to it, so I can't say too much yet. ( show less)
