It has pretty much the same story with Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core which was an amazing game, I totally recommend it (ending was epic and so is this OVA).

Final Fantasy is the one of the best anime a saw.its really awesome.Last Order's score was composed, arranged, and produced by Takeharu Ishimoto, including the ending theme entitled Last Order.[15] The music was combined with the music from Before Crisis: Final Fantasy VII on a single soundtrack and released in Japan on December 19, 2007.[27] The soundtrack was later made available in North America by Square Enix.[28] Tracks 13 through 27 on the disc contain the score from Last Order, while tracks 1 through 12 contain music from Before Crisis.[27] ( read more)

Madhouse was chosen to produce it partly because of the previous success with the commercial and that the president of the company was very enthusiastic about the project.[16] However, the main reason for choosing Madhouse was that the company "understood the significance" of making a Final Fantasy VII animation, as it was considered a large responsibility to animate "the most popular game in the FF [Final Fantasy] series".[16] Tetsuya Nomura, the character designer for the Final Fantasy VII series and co-director of Advent Children,[20][21][22] acted as the supervising director.[16] He had the ability to reject or accept concept drawings for Last Order. As a result, Nomura had a large quantity of images redrawn, to the extent where "the entire production was in jeopardy".[16][29] ( show less)

this is the little missing pieces of ff7 the game. i love ff7 and yes, i'm more than a fan but this little anime right here is the missing pieces of ff7 the game of where cloud strife is the hero and before ff7 crsis core where we, the fan gets to have a better understanding of cloud's dead friend, zack.
if anyone plays the game ff7 that came out during 1997, we all get to play none other than cloud strife as the main hero. now, in that game if anyone took their time and explore around da mansion of where to get vincent valentine to join ( read more)

if anyone plays the game ff7 that came out during 1997, we all get to play none other than cloud strife as the main hero. now, in that game if anyone took their time and explore around da mansion of where to get vincent valentine to join da party there was a part of where it name the two test subject that hojo experiment on label as test subject C and Z. than later on the game, bring cloud back there again we get to see the flash back of test subject Z - which is Zack and the other is C - Cloud, trying to help cloud escaped shinra. lolx, swell...there you have it folks. this is the anime of that little flash back from ff7 and it goes into more depth and how zack becomes a memory of our main hero cloud strife.
anyone a big fan will want to know everything so i say don't miss out on this anime and yes it will make more sense than ever after watching this anime and if this still doesn't make sense, play zack's game ff7 crisis core, watch this anime and then replay ff7. not an anime to pass up on for those ff fans. rating is 5/5. Im a huge fan of ff7 but this anime slipped by me. I dont know if its becouse I love ff7 or if its just a really good anime but i really like it. it fills in some gaps and any additional story before the final fantasy series completely changed is good to me
