Summary: |
In Giant Killing a ragtag bunch from East Tokyo are struggling in Japan's top football league. The team is going through an abysmal spell right now where they are nearing the bottom of the table and have lost 5 matches in a row. The loses haven't done much to team moral, because it was already low. Fan support, on the other hand, is looking bleak. In the world of football, once the fans turn on a team the end is near. Teams don't recover. Coaches are fired, players are sold, and teams drop to smaller divisions where profits often prevent them from ever being successful against even mediocre top division programs. East Tokyo United, ETU, can only blame their coach right now. And Coach is ready to give up this next game to prove to his team and fans, that against the biggest club in the nation he can make this team win. |

Well in a nutshell, my title sums it up. This was a generally good anime. I thought the characters were well thought up + excellently developed. They could be both amusing + interesting at different occasions. The soccer itself was enjoyable + extremely realistic. It may not be as crazy as other sports animes but I felt that its realistic portrayal of soccer made it, if anything, even more enjoyable. The story itself + the way it was developed was also quite good. I found episodes 7 - 9 hard to watch but as you'll c 4 yourselves if u watch it, they're ( read more)

All in all a really good anime. My 1, small, regret is I wished it could be longer but 2b honest it was probably good enough with just 26 episodes. ( show less)

Writing this review not even half way through the series, i must say my favorite thing about the show is the animation. Unlike having a style of Naruto or One-piece, your typical styles, giant killing brings an american-comic feel to the era of anime.
Unlike most sports anime, this show does not have players with superb skills. Theyre just your average people, nothing special about them. The coach however, is "rumored" to be one of the all time greats.
The story is a bit slow. The main problem with it i that most of the time is dialogue and ( read more)

This anime is not one of the all time greats, but there is not a flaw in the show that could cause people to hate it. If you have the time, this anime is worth it ( show less)

This anime is very good if you like football and if you like to watch weak teams suppress themselves. Tittle of anime is very suited because they are bringing big teams down. In this anime you can say that the "main" hero is the coach, but the story is builded around all of the players, and they development. In this anime you will see what coaches really do, and how they work affecting the whole team.
So this anime is basically god choice if you really like football, and have spare time, beacuse it is really time-consuming show.
I warned ( read more)

Being mostly into shounen anime I don’t really ever watch sport anime let alone a football anime, being a avid Manchester United FC supporter I thought lets give this a shot. After watching episode 1, I was quite eager to see what happens in episode 2 and before long I found myself drawn into the world of East Tokyo United and the mind that is Tatsumi Takeshi. I couldn’t help but notice how Tatsumi reminded me of José Mourinhou (Real Madrid FC Manager) and how they implemented almost identical strategies to defeat the bigger clubs. This is ( read more)

This is entertaining from episode 1 right through to 26 it made feel apart of the team from the losses, training sessions, the conflicting fan support to the ecstatic joy felt when the team scores. It focuses on the development of the team and the players more than just the advancement of a specific main character. It had me SCREAMING GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAL when they scored and there are very intense encounters that had me feeling as though I was in the stadium rooting them on and chanting for my favorite players, I figuratively pulled me hair when a scoring opportunity was missed and had me prasing Tatsumis’ stratergy. A Must Watch even if you don’t like sport.!!! ( show less)

I've watched many football anime before and I think the most famous one would be Cabtin Tsubasa!
All of those anime are based on the team players and mostly they evolve around one main player character but never about a coach!
Giant Killing does not have a lot of matches because it is focused on how the coach is dealing with all kind of obstacles that face him and his team. I think Giant Killing sets a new bench mark in football anime. This show gives you an image about how much Japanese becomes professionals in football.
For me this show ( read more)
