with all the seriousness and intensity of the second season, this OVA series is such a breather. light and entertaining. an insert story after sannan-san hurt his arm and the shinsengumi recruited itou.
i love how every ova is somehow like a piece of the story from each of the characters' point of view. though it's a shame shinpachi doesn't have his own arc. any, the OVA allows us to see a different side of each of the characters--to get to know about them better. or to laugh at their silliness and craziness. :)

True blessing for the fans of this series! :D Even for those who have not watched the original anime, this will be easy to understand, as though this is apparently placed during the anime’s first season, the relation is rather thin. You can easily use an episode of this to get an impression of the whole series. :D
Bit less of a storyline than usually, as all five episodes revolve around the same occurring (each time from a different male character’s POV though). The central occurrence itself is a bit puzzle-pieced together over all five episodes, ( read more)

Bit less of a storyline than usually, as all five episodes revolve around the same occurring (each time from a different male character’s POV though). The central occurrence itself is a bit puzzle-pieced together over all five episodes, yet the focus clearly lies on the characters.
Speaking of which: Characters and seiyuu are exactly the same as in the series, so for those who already know the original series, nothing’s gonna get weird. Characters, their dynamics, and development are clearly the focus of this work, and excellently done for an OVA. Interaction is realistically drawn and at times pretty hilarious. Surely the personalities are drawn more clearly in the anime, but you can easily get a feel for the most important characters from this OVA alone, and hey – comparing five slow-paced episodes to a complete 22-ep anime is a bit unfair XD
The dialogue is topnotch, with good flow, some quite heart-touching moments, and bringing back the comedy that kinda got drowned out during the second half of the original series!
Music, art style, and animation are just as stunning as in the original series :D and this OVA includes some action as well, though not quite as much as the original anime.
Funny, heart-touching, with its suspenseful moments, and excellent character design (both visually and psychologically) and art style once more make for an amazing watch :D Surely the series has a more solid plot, but you can easily use this to get an impression, and if you’re already a fan, you’ll most probably be able to enjoy this to the fullest!
For those that tried the OVA, like it even in the slightest, and don’t know the original anime (Hakuouki Shinsengumi Kitan / Hakuouki Hekketsu-Roku), I can only recommend that one! Amazingly unique characters, a solid plot, and outstanding art style; a historical/supernatural with drama, action, romance, comedy, tragedy… and bishie samurai. Last but not least, the whole series play on pride in your country, braveness, love, and fighting for future and peace. I’m rewatching the whole series for the third or fourth time now, and it still leaves an awesome impression!
Side note for the fans: Wiki tells me another OVA (Reimeiroku) is scheduled for the summer. Keeping my fingers crossed and waiting :D ( show less)

For fans of the series this is a blessing to see the characters all over again
It takes place seemingly during the first season of the anime but at the same time totally unrelated (so for those who haven't seen the series don't worry it will make sense)
This is similar to a collection of OVAs (yet with a little storyline to it) which follow a different male character each episode. It reveals to the audience more about the male characters.
The voice actors are all the same so no one has a new voice.
It retains the comedy that had been somewhat ( read more)

For anyone who likes historical/supernatural or romance this anime is for you. Any new people may also be interested in the series which had a more solid plot than this one but for all fans enjoy it to its fullest. No historical knowledge of the this era is required and for newcomers as I've said before watching the series is not compulsory to be able to understand what is happening. ( show less)

This hasn't really got anything to do with the actual anime, so if you haven't watched the actual anime, it doesn't hurt to watch this one, except in the anime, the characteristics and personalities are drawn quite clearly. Both this OVA and the anime illustrates the main theme of the pride of being a your country's citizen. It's about the pride and love they have as a person who can fight for the peace and beautiful future of their country, to the point where they do not hesitate to sacrifice their life for the country.
I truly love both the ( read more)

I truly love both the anime and this OVA, although there is only currently 2 episodes, but the pride they have in the fighting for the sake of protecting their country is worth respect. Personally, the only negative comment i have in this series (anime and OVA) is i sometimes find the girl's personality a bit annoying, but i guess the storyline and the other main characters kept me going on this.
So Please do watch it! ( show less)

this anime is about loving your country and do every thing for it even giving your life ...

if you want to understand it you should see the first episode
