This animation is still pretty good. There are several reasons I dont find it as awesome as Season 1 and 2 but those are mostly because the story is going for a differnt feel.
Story wise it seams they want to have a deeper impact. So they went with a more of slice of life than a comedy as was in the previous seasons. Additionally the cut down from 50 episodes in the first season to the 25 episodes of the second was done well - though the story is excellent in this season its only 12 episodes and starts with a dramatic turn of events that dont ( read more)

Additionally the cut down from 50 episodes in the first season to the 25 episodes of the second was done well - though the story is excellent in this season its only 12 episodes and starts with a dramatic turn of events that dont get explained tell episode 11. Because of this it casts a shadow on the comedy making it more dramatic but putting a hugh hole in the comedy.
The Dialogue is still excellent the actors of this series are all veterins and all do excellently.
The Animation though is in my humble oppion worse. Its up to average standards but does two things terribly. First it ditches the preconsieved styles of the first shows and comes up with another. And it takes a more realistic stance on top of that. I had conceded that the pastel feel of the series made it some what magical and lossing this effect is disaterous to the feel. Additionaly as one could see in the animated series of batman in 1992 the 4th seasons redrawn effect was terrible.... while this has the same effect... its hard to ease into each character as they were before. About halfway through you will start to get the feel for the characters again but its still very hard ...
The Entertainment is still excellent its still one of the best comedies and a thrilling story. I found though that I was at a loss with some of the new characters and that the show was smooth but a little jaring at the same time if thats possible. Once again its one of the best animations so this seaons seriousness wasnt earth shattering but took the feel off.
Still a good show and a must watch if your a Hayate no Gotoku fan ( show less)
