Not that I am hating on the shounen ai anime - I am a fan of shounen ai myself but why do they get so much airtime and even second seasons when really good shoujos such as this and Kyou, koi wo hajimemasu have either one season or are put in a measley two episode OVA? It's not fair and it totally makes anime seem like a tool to serve the manga instead of seeing anime as an original art form that emphasises the manga's potential. We need more of these in anime, there's a reason why anime such as this one is so popular.
Anyways onto the review:
This anime beautifully depicts a very strange and acceptably dangerous romance - if you have gone so far as to read the manga you will not be disappointed. Usui Takumi is the perfect alpha male and Ayuzawa Misaki is simply brilliant, this heroine has no contest. The animation is beautifully structured to satisfy different moods, modes and situations and this is what makes this anime so wonderful - the comedy is not forced and because the animation is so expressive you really see alot of emotion coming through. Some might think it is excessive (but if you are looking for excessive comedy I suggest you watch Special A - you will get PUNCH DRUNK on the comedy in that thing) and although maid-sama can be a bit much you cannot help but love the craziness that goes on in this anime. On an entertainment level this anime has broken boundaries without being an impossible pain in the ass. A MASTERPIECE. I am hoping for a second season of this anime - even though the likelihood of that happening seems really low. However don't let that discourage you, read the manga and watch the anime. You won't be sorry.
