Summary: |
These four men, Omi Tsukiyono, Ken Hidaka, Yohji Kudoh, and Aya Fujimiya, are a group of assassins called "Weiß." They cover their operations by working at a flower shop during the day and the basement is their hideout. This is no ordinary group: they kill the murderers, big businessmen, and other assassins that the law cannot touch. Each one is fighting for their own reasons, whether it is revenge or to help a loved one. But they soon realize that there are connections between some of their cases and try to find out what is really going on. They use whatever they can to complete their missions and kill the people that are targeted by Weiß's leader. |

This is one of the older vintaged series that was considered a classic in its own way. Weiss Kreuz revolves mostly around the four characters, Aya, Ken, Omi, and Yoji, and their missions. As the story progresses, the missions begin to involve the characters more personally and the antagonist becomes more apparent. Storywise, I think it's very light and it doesn't delve deeply like a psychological thriller. It follows a formulaic plot of completing missions and it becomes somewhat predictable. As the story progresses, the missions begin to involve the characters more personally and the antagonist becomes more apparent. Storywise, I think it's very light and it doesn't delve deeply like a psychological thriller. It follows a formulaic plot of completing missions and it becomes somewhat predictable. However, the charm in the series resides in the individual characters. They are each a bit different from each other and share the common goal of eradicating evil through means of assassination. Aya is cold towards most people and is most revenge driven in the entire group. Ken is kind of like a balancer in the group and holds friendship as an important part. Omi is the cheerful one, but harbors the burden of being unsure of his true identity. Yoji is the playboy of the group, but the truth is these relationships are a way of running away of the past.
Considering the vintage of the series, animation is fairly simple using still shots. Not really the best animation done. It got quite sloppy in the end when shapes began to jump from place to place instead of transitioning smoothly. The action scenes are "ok" because it's not actual fight choreography but hints at violence. (Despite the fact the show is about assassination.) Weiss Kreuz was well liked by the audience due to its beautiful cast of characters both heroes and villains alike. Weiss Kreuz was written by Koyasu Takehito who voiced the role of Aya and I was surprised to hear that since I only knew him as a prolific voice actor. He also created the quartet group Weiss composed of the voice actors of Ken, Omi, and Yoji. Together they sung the opening and ending themes to the anime and created several drama CDs for the series. Overall, Weiss Kreuz can be viewed as a drama with some lurking darkness. ( show less)

This was one of the first anime series that I watched completely, and because of that my opinion is probably slightly biased. The art, being all hand drawn, is not the best. This is also an older anime, so the storyline is a little silly. This is one of my favourite anime. I enjoyed the character stories, backgrounds, and and silly/randomness to serious missions that happen. If you've enjoyed it, I would highly recommend the OVA.
Oh, and just so everyone knows, the picture for Knight Hunters, and Knight Hunters Eternity are both wrong.
