Summary: |
Heliopolis, a so-called neutral space colony was holding a top-secret weapons research facility, producing Gundams for the Earth Alliance. ZAFT, which is composed of Coordinators (genetically modified/upgraded humans), attacks Heliopolis, stealing 4 out of the Alliance's 5 Gundams. In the battlefield, civilian Kira Yamato stumbles upon the Strike, the last remaining Gundam of the alliance, and is forced to pilot it. In the midst of battle he encounters his best friend, Athrun Zala, as one of the hijackers of the 5 Gundams, who sides with ZAFT. Being a Coordinator, he is the only one who can pilot the Gundam. But Kira is not with ZAFT, even though they're his own kind, nor the Alliance. Since the Alliance is the only place he could turn to at the time, he sides with them. He pilots the Gundam to protect his friends, and to fight his best friend, which pains both of them. It's a war between individual beliefs. |

Now, I am not a big fan on mechs and future type anime's, but recently I've acquired a taste for them (after watching Space Battle Ship Yamato (2012 remake) which I highly recommend). I've asked for a friend of mine for some recommends on good future/science fiction type anime’s. He gave me Mobile Suit Gundam SEED. My, oh my… was I surprised. It turned out better than just good. The story is placed in the future where man has split in two evolutionary paths, the coordinator (those who genetic engineer themselves to be better) and the naturals ( read more)

The story is placed in the future where man has split in two evolutionary paths, the coordinator (those who genetic engineer themselves to be better) and the naturals (those who are against genetic modification). The two factions are at war with each other and they use giant robots/mechs to fight each other. That is all you need to know about the actual story, dot wana give spoilers. The story and story development set the bar very high, it’s seamless, has no needles distraction and irrelevant stories. It contains mystery, action, romance (to a degree), and moral debates (common in Japanese anime, but that is why we love em so), there is not one boring moment. The characters and character development is just prima, there is no character who is just there for the fun of it. You get to know the character inside and out while at the same time they remain a mystery. The animation suites the anime, the art is both future rustic, clean and elegant. It is just beautiful. The dialogue is full of emotion and moral dilemmas and does not beat around the bush. This anime has thoroughly entertained me. I recommend it to anyone who is a fan of mechs, future, and science fiction type anime. I am now officially hooked to mechs and all it robotic and science fiction splendour. Now, I am not a big fan on mechs and future tipe anime's, but recently I've accuired a tase for them (after watching Space Battle Ship Yamato (2012 remake)). I've asked for a friend of mine for some recomends on good future/scyphi ( show less)

I looked at this anime after hearing about the Gundam series from a friend, and I'm glad I did! This anime was down right amazing. It had the perfect combination of Gundam fight scenes and personal struggles with the pilots, making the characters very realistic and believable. Personally, I find watching it in the original Japanese to be much better than the English dub. The English dub, in my opinion, distorts the characters personalities, making them seem like completely different types of people.

The other day I was trying to find something to watch and I decided to watch a Gundam; great decision. Gundam Seed has an amazing storyline, focusing on the chase and persecution against the arch-angel. But while that was a large part of the story there were many other facets including the growth of his enemies, and it isn't one of those animes where anyone who has a personality joins the good guys team; a large amount of the enemies and even friends who undergo much personal growth die, adding an amazing atmosphere of tragedy and hope.
I recommend ( read more)

I recommend it to anyone, the animation is 10 years old but it's still fairly good.
oh and omg huge starwars moment on episode 40 that just foreshadows the epicness of gundam seed destiny. ( show less)

I'm usually not one to write a 5 by 5 excellent rating, but here I am. Usually I have to stray away from a lot of the teenager/older children animes because they usually contain too many fillers or just lack a plot. The plot of this anime is actually a lot more mature than its rating. It brings up many upper level psychological themes such as defining right from wrong or friend from foe. It also questions how one defines humanity, whether or not genetic manipulation is morally justified and how natures design either allows for or rejects the presence ( read more)

It also questions how one defines humanity, whether or not genetic manipulation is morally justified and how natures design either allows for or rejects the presence and coexistence of those who are genetically altered.
Character design could have been a bit better, but overall I would have to rate it a 5/5. Many of the moments where we run into a character having an emotional breakdown are absolutely correct and applied correctly, but there are a lot of times as well *Cough Cough* Kira and Kogali *Cough Cough* where the emotional breakdowns are unnecessary. I also thought that the subtle and not so subtle inter-character relationships added a good deal of very real drama into this series.
The audio for this was outstanding. 5/5 any day. I found that it complemented the mood of the show and added to the drama and action. Well played.
Overall a very good anime. Sure it has its moments where it seems overly emotional, but a very large amount of those times are very realistic given the setting. ( show less)

Gundam SEED is just too awesome, The bonds and interactions between the characters are so awesome, the story is also. And you can really see the main characters suffering where their fate has brought them and when they don't have a choice to fight one another. I was really hooked after watching a few episodes it's a very thrilling, exciting and action-filled with a hint of romance. You guys have to try this!

I really liked this gundam series and really recommended it to gundam fans and to people that haven't watched any gundam shows before. It has plenty of really good one on one fights between mecha and plenty of mass fights as well. My favorite part of this show is the friends who are on opposite sides of the main conflict. You have the main protagonist Kira Yamato who is on the side of the Earth Alliance even though his ideals don't exactly match up with theirs. Then his childhood friend Athrun Zala who fights for Zaft and whose father is high ( read more)
