More-than-short but honestly emotional, “Voices of a Distant Star” is sure to tug heart strings!

It's only about 25 minutes, but these 25 minutes surprise with an excellent story concept, well-done characters, and raw emotion and bonds. Longing, hopelessness, and patience are depicted beautifully, with a couple each following their own dreams but still keeping in contact. The dialogue might need a bit getting used to, as it is mostly communication via cell-phones, but it is definitely heart-touching. The animation is surprisingly good with (read more)

I had pretty high expectations for this anime considering how awesome the trailers looked. I was very disappointed with it.
Its a very sweet story of two lovers trying to stay in contact with space as there distance barrier however it did seem a little unrealistic. A middle school girl (around year 7) is sent into space to fight some weird things that seem not even affect life on earth at all.
Its a bit of a sad story with no real ending.
The length and amount of characters suit each other. In the way of having only two named characters within (read more)

This is one of Shinkai Makoto's works. and his movies always have good storyline and animation. well at least to me. Although, it is a bit short.. People should know that this was one of his first projects. So dont expect too many fancy things and just enjoy this slow, romantic and beautiful anime and accept it as it is. It has its own unique style and storyline. and definitely doesnt disappoint. If you're into good animation, good storyline, then this anime is for you! :)

The whole thing was created by one guy with a laptop.

The anime itself is a pretty charming tale of a long distance relationship combined with a healthy dose of alien fighting in large mechs. The anime also takes a look at space travel in a way that very few series or movies even attempt and does it very well. The only real downside is the length. It's only around 30 minutes and will be over before you know it. All things considered though it definitely warrants a full watch through. It won't take much of your time and it really is amazing seeing (read more)

voices of a distant star was a very, how should i say, captivating story. for only being 25 minutes long the story was overwhelmingly powerful and leaves you with almost-watery eyes. something like this could only have been told by a master storyteller. although the character designs were somewhat lacking, the environment designs were stunningly beautiful. some points of the film did seem a bit cliche but overall this is, i'd say, definitely one of the greats. good stuff! >_< b
