Who wouldn’t like to leap through time? Who wouldn’t like to change even the slightest thing in their past? Who wouldn’t like to affect the future?
I certainly wouldn’t--not in a ‘change the past’ way. Who knows what else you effect? Who knows what would play out differently? The Butterfly Effect is still in effect, and it could still create chaos.
I’m just jumping into the midst of things, however. I’ll try to keep it short from here on out. Please forgive any spoilers--I try to keep them as low and few as possible, but it is ( read more)

Please forgive any spoilers--I try to keep them as low and few as possible, but it is a bit hard to describe a movie of approximately one hour forty without spoiling even the tiniest thing.
Makoto can leap back through time--or more like skip through time, because the time she can revert certainly isn’t an era or two. One time, that ability saves her life. When she starts to play around with it, though, the mentioned Butterfly Effect steps into the foreground, though, and starts creating not only chaos but also heavy drama.
Sure enough “The Girl Who Leapt Through Time” might not be an intriguing title, and remind more of an InuYasha ripoff than anything else… though it is everything but. Heroes and heroines leaping through time might not be a new idea, but it’s rarely been used like this before. “The Girl Who Leapt Through Time” is not about leaping through time, making friends, defeating foes, and returning or not. It’s an anime movie about young innocence, loss, love, and how wishes don’t always turn out the way they’re meant to. Little is generic in this whole movie. Instead, it surprises with a solid storyline, heavy drama with the right amount of tension, and a good number of twists for a movie, especially towards the end. Not to mention a strong message that perhaps not everyone might relate to, but that certainly had me thinking.
The main problem with the storyline is that the end may be slightly disappointing, as some things stay unexplained. There are no huger plot holes, and the storyline is satisfying enough for me--short of a masterpiece, but satisfying--but IMHO a few minutes more could have made for more closure, as quite a few things stay unresolved. It might add to realism, but it is just as sure to piss more than a few viewers off.
If the storyline in itself doesn’t make the story very good, however, then our well-rounded bunch of characters certainly do. The characters are well designed with excellent development for a movie, and there’s nobody introduced just to disappear off the screen minutes later--everyone leaves an impression, and each character has their role in the overall development of the story. If I were to nitpick, Makoto (the protagonist) seems a bit flatter than many of the ‘side’ characters; but that is a small flaw, as she is still well-developed and quite easy to empathise with. Character interaction is natural, as is the dialogue.
Technically, I can’t complain either. The animation may not be entirely up-to-date, but is above average. In terms of art, the character design may stay plain yet is comparably realistic, and the amount of detail especially in the background art is something to behold. If I were to compare the art, it’d probably be closest to the "Summer Wars" movie. The music only helps to get across the atmosphere as well; there’s no instance where the tunes stand out for the wrong reasons.
“The Girl Who Leapt Through Time” may not have full closure, and it is quite sad at times. Nonetheless, it is probably very enjoyable if you want something with drama, plenty of emotion, good character development, and the potential to make you think. It might not be Ghibli’s level, and neither is it for those looking for superpowered action and adventure, but it is a solid movie that holds its place well IMO. Don’t let yourself be fooled by a boring title.~
PS: This archive is a double of "Toki wo Kakeru Shoujo". Though I'm too lazy to check right now, one of these two archives doesn't contain but >600MB files (aka those requiring plus download). If you don't find a small-size file here, it might be worth the time switching the archive. :P
PPS: If, wanting to download a small-size file, you find yourself with only PLUS options, wait a few minutes and refresh the page. I've had the problem quite a bit over the last few days, but the whole thing always fixed itself. ( show less)

I've started watching several of the anime 'movies' here and this was next on the list... I want to join those reviewers who praise the character development of this movie as that was very well done. Probably my favourite aspect of this movie, other than a solid story-line, was the character development and how naturally they move and interact. It made watching very 'easy'.

As for the story-line, I felt it was very solid and multi-dimensional with a great 'twist' toward the end. There are plenty of emotions here as I felt tense on numerous occasions. Overall I didn't get the 'oh I know what's going to happen next' feeling too much which was refreshing!
Technically, the artwork is similar to other works I've seen recently, such as Summer Wars. The backgrounds and details are outstanding however the characters themselves are somewhat plain and simple. It's an interesting effect, not my favourite, but it works. The music in this movie is excellent. Both the background and ending songs were very much in keeping with the mood of the film. Dialogue again was very good and very natural.
Overall the movie is an excellent watch with plenty of emotion, just the right amount of tension, a solid story-line with a well rounded ending... recommended! ( show less)

I watched this movie with no high expectations, but I was surprised in a good way. Though it is not on par with the Ghibli films, it definetly has much entertaintment. A sweet story which is sad at times, especially near the end. I like it how well-developed all the characters were, not just the main character, but I got to know a bunch of her schoolmates and friends, too. It also have a sweet music, which sets a very good mood.

'The Girl That Leapt Through Time' is a surprising beautiful anime movie that proves to be quite a treat. The story line starts at an appropriate place and progresses fairly nicely, ending with a pause and a pop. I was instantly enthralled as the characters were strongly developed, which in turn allowed me to get attached to the anime's characters like ants on sugar. The story was beautiful as the animation was excellent, and, all in all, if I were asked if this anime movie was worth watching I would answer: yes!

this anime is awesomeeee, i mean to me the animation is incredible for the time it was made.. it felt real and the story line is great, plus i really love the main character..also like the fact that the file size is not huge for a movie that's like an hour and a half, im really glad i watch this though it was merely random picked and because the title attract me..recommended however if you dont like this kind of anime then dont watch it, i hope other people can see what i see in this..

I would normally never give a movie or a show 5 stars but this show literally deserves 5 stars as it is a masterpiece. Before I continue, I would like to apologize if I had said something spoil-ish as I was trying to avoid it as best as I can.
Story: The story is amazing, it doesn't sound like much based off the title but continue to watch it because the story was definitely well thought out and doesn't have an ending that you would expect. I won't ruin it for you but there is little generic plots in the story. Though I was disappointed at ( read more)

I won't ruin it for you but there is little generic plots in the story. Though I was disappointed at the ending, it was a good and well thought out one and I wouldn't want to have the ending changed to mine as mine is way generic compared to theirs.
There are a few unexplained things in the anime that you wish they'd actually reveal. You wait and wait to find out these answers but they never really come. The time leaping also gets a bit confusing sometimes, mainly near the end when they pull a plot twist to end the story on a good note.
Characters: A variety of characters with good character development though Mokoto shows generic traits in her personality, she still came off as a good main character. Almost every sub character makes an impression on you, of course there are people who you could care less about. Each character had a role and you will see how important each character is to the story. You'll understand my title later, trust me it will make sense.
Music: The music was good, I have heard better but the music does suit the anime and it is nice to listen to. However, it is not something that I would be going out of my way to get.
Dialog: With good characters comes good dialog obviously. The interaction with each character with other characters seem very realistic, of course once again you have some characters that act totally out of the norm and have super emotions to sweep the audience into an emotional frenzy but overall the dialog was solid and great. There are some scenes where they do carry out a certain thing (Mokoto) that started to get annoying but it was a correct reaction to the situation...
Animation: Though the anime has a style that you don't normally see in new animes, that just makes it better. The animation is very fluid and I feel like I'm watching water when the characters move around. They continue to impress me throughout the whole movie up until the last part where they lazily did a scene that involved a lot of running... a lot of running and though it makes sense that it would take a while to get from one place to the next, they carried out the running scene a bit too long and probably could have shortened the time. They also drag out some scenes a bit too long and it makes you look away due to lack of dialog or anything really important or interesting happening.
Entertainment: I was trying to do something else when I was watching the movie but I kept getting sucked into watching it until I found myself totally ignoring what I was trying to do. Overall, this movie deserves praise from others as it was beautifully made. I recommend that you watch this movie, if you don't you are missing out.
People who like this movie are encouraged to watch Summer Wars as well. Hope this was a helpful review. ( show less)
